Vourneen Ni’Canin

Better known by her nickname Vee, Vee grew up on Gadigal/Bidjigal country (Sydney) and has been dancing in almost every genre from ballet to ballroom since she was 3 years old. Her interest in Contemporary dance saw her move to Aotearoa (New Zealand) to take up her tertiary studies with the New Zealand School of Dance. After two years of full-time study under the guidance of Victoria Colombus and James O'Hara, Vee secured a spot in the selective 3rd Year Diploma course. This saw her further her dancing by studying various techniques such as Flying Low, GAGA, Contact Improvisation and Release Technique.

Since graduating in 2019, Vee has performed in Fringe Festivals across Poneke (Wellington), Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland), Eora Nation country (Sydney) and Narrm (Melbourne). Vee has also completed secondments with Australian dance companies including DanceNorth, Lucy Guerin, TAS Dance and Australian Dance Theatre. Highlights of her dance journey include performing Raewyn Hill's Carnivale.4, performing and choreographing in NZSD's Choreographic Seasons STOA and Orbiculus, and working with choreographers Ross McCormack, Eliza Sanders, Damien Jalet and Stephanie Lake. Whilst studying dance in Aotearoa, Vee also learnt the Te Reo Maori language and would love to learn the First Nations languages of Australia. Vee joined Scimm. Dance company in 2022 as a first company artist and was promoted to rising company artist in 2023.
